The 2020 Ford Focus Active presents a more gritty exterior look, thanks to the raised driving and optimized chassis configuration, to keep the driving dynamics that have always been distinctive of Focus unaltered, while offering greater safety and manageability, even in the case of roads bumpy, both on urban roads and on highways.

What is the 2020 Ford Focus Active? crossover configuration
Equipped as standard, both for the five-door version and the wagon version with the innovative configuration of the SLA rear suspensions (with variable-length swing arms), the new Focus Active chassis features springs, shock absorbers, stabilizer bars, and geometries exclusive front and rear suspension that allows a 30 mm and 34 mm raised rail to be obtained for the front and rear, respectively, compared to the Focus.
The Ford SLA suspension system optimizes the comfort and response speed of the car and has an independent sub-frame that provides a perfect balance between the axles in various driving conditions. The bushes are made of composite material that allows a different degree of rigidity if subjected to stress from wide angles, to ensure better insulation from noise and vibrations in case of irregular floors and better acoustic comfort on board. On the Wagon model, a dedicated SLA suspension is mounted with repositioned dampers to help the car to remain agile and responsive even when fully loaded and to optimize the entrance space thanks to a larger loading surface.
To improve driving even on rough roads, 17-inch alloy wheels are equipped with 215/55 R17 tires with the higher shoulder. The Drive Modes technology, already available on Focus in the Normal, Sport and Eco modes, which allow you to set accelerator parameters, 8-speed automatic transmission, EPAS (Electronic Power Assisted Steering) and ACC, to adapt to the driving scenario, adds, in the Active version, the modes:
- Active (slippery): adjusts the ESC stability control and traction control settings for greater safety on hard and slippery surfaces such as mud, gravel, grass, water, and ice; reduces wheel slip even during start-up and ensures softer throttle response;
- Trail (bumpy): helps maintain traction on soft surfaces such as sand or fresh snow; limits the activation of the ABS anti-slip system to allow greater wheel slip; configures traction control to allow greater wheel slip to clean the tread from sand, snow or mud and provides a smoother accelerator response.
