2020 Kia ProCeed Review: One Of The Best Shooting Brake | While it is time for some manufacturers to rationalize everything that does not relate to SUV, Kia does not care! After the Stinger, the Korean gives us a second car “image”: the ProCeed. Behind this known name hides a new car …
Indeed, in the Kia language, ProCeed – now written in one word – does not mean a more dynamic three-door variant of the Ceed, but “dynamized” break of the same compact. Or break “hunting” to use a name more inlaid. The Asian manufacturer tries to democratize a genre that ran only on much higher ranges, with the exception of the Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake which becomes “de facto” its only direct competitor.
The 2020 Kia ProCeed is therefore different from a classic Ceed SW with its much sharper rear end. The tailgate is more plunging and the flag rises 43 mm lower, 10 of which are earned on lowered suspensions. The lights are also new and take the form of a light strip that runs the full width of the tailgate, giving the car a style both distinctive and muscular. From some angles, we can even find inspiration from Porsche Panamera Shooting Brake at this Kia. A beautiful reference you will agree.
2020 Kia ProCeed Interior
On board, all furniture is taken from the Ceed and is therefore much more consensual than the outside. The good news is that the qualities of this interior are preserved: a well thought out ergonomics and a remarkable quality of manufacture, which has nothing to envy to the German competition. What to compensate for a modern design, but very classic.
The other good news is that this ProCeed does not sacrifice all practical aspects on the altar of design. Of course, the trunk is significantly smaller than a Ceed break, but its capacity is still a generous 594 liters. Let us nuances however, specifying that this volume takes into account the various storage spaces located under the floor. But even above it the space is easily exploitable thanks to the flat loading threshold, the regular shapes of the perimeter, and the well-thought-out mobile partitioning rail. And in the rear seats, only people over 1.90 m will be really bothered by the design of the roof descent.
Wanted “lifestyle” variant of the Ceed, the ProCeed is combined only the most sporting finishes GT Line, GT Line Premium and GT. The equipment is therefore rich from the earliest versions including Lane Keeping Aid, Automatic Emergency Braking, Multimedia with Navigation, Hands-free Opening and Starting, Air Conditioning and leather upholstery. In short, nothing is missing!
The GT Line and GT Line Premium are available with engines 1.0 T-GDI 120 hp, 1.4 T-GDI 140 hp and 1.6 CRDI 136 hp. While the latter is probably not the most suitable for a sports car, it regales by its generous torque (280 Nm in manual, 300 Nm in DCT-7) and its frugality (3.9 to 4.3l / 100km NEDC!) That will always delight the big rollers. The 1.4 T-GDI is the most suitable for everyday use. It shines by its linearity and its interesting torque of 242 Nm available, magic of the turbo, from 1,500 rpm. It is not devoid of sensations either, including staying well under the 10 seconds (9.1 s) on the exercise from 0 to 100 km / h. In any case, we appreciate the chassis completed 2020 Kia ProCeed, precise and rigid, enjoying a damping expertly tared between comfort and dynamism.
At the top of the range stands the 2020 Kia ProCeed GT, which stands out with some additional cosmetic devices (18-inch wheels, red piping, sports seats stitched with) and a rear diffuser that supports real exhaust outlets (unlike the GT Line), which is itself a specific one whose sound is boosted mechanically and artificially. It also stands out for its 204-horsepower 1.6 T-GDI engine, which is exclusively linked to the DCT-7 seven-speed automatic transmission. More than its pure performance (0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds), it is especially by the road dynamics that it surprises. The steering is precise and direct, the suspensions manage to contain the movements of the body without harming the comfort, and in the desert collar climbed during our test, neither motor skills nor braking were taken in default. While driving sensations may not be as rewarding as in a Ford Focus, a BMW 1 Series or a Mazda 3; but this ProCeed GT proves nevertheless that the progress in terms of dynamism brought by the Stinger is reflected well on the other models of the range.
